The 3-acre Syrah Block is the most unique of the property.  It is a terrace “amphitheater” carved out of a solid limestone face with no topsoil.  When planted, the holes had to be cut out of the terraces and filled with starter topsoil to facilitate early growth.  The vine density is low due to overly wide spacing, driven by the terrain.  The net result of these growing conditions is cluster formation that is almost picture perfect. In 2016, antoher acre of Syrah was planted immediately below the existing block on the South-facing slope.

2014 Tasting Notes

A rich, incredibly extracted dark purple, this wine exhibits intricate layers of blackberry, leather, chocolate, black pepper, and coffee.  Heavily toasted oak yields burnt caramel reminiscent of a decadent creme brûlée.  Lots of firm tannins, crisp acid, dark fruit, and assertive oak give this wine great backbone and structure.
