The 3-acre Syrah Block is the most unique of the property.  It is a terrace “amphitheater” carved out of a solid limestone face with no topsoil.  When planted, the holes had to be cut out of the terraces and filled with starter topsoil to facilitate early growth.  The vine density is low due to overly wide spacing, driven by the terrain.  The net result of these growing conditions is cluster formation that is almost picture perfect. In 2016, we added another acre of Syrah planted immediately below the existing block on the South-facing amphitheater block.

2016 Tasting Notes

An intense, impenetrable purple, this is a monster wine. Aromas of violets, blackberry, black currants, and black plum spar with white and black pepper, anise, and dark cocoa. Aged in 100% French oak (57% new), this is an aggressive yet graceful wine packed with intrigue.
