The 3-acre Syrah Block is the most unique of the property.  It is a terrace “amphitheater” carved out of a solid limestone face with no topsoil.  When planted, the holes had to be cut out of the terraces and filled with starter topsoil to facilitate early growth.  The vine density is low due to overly wide spacing, driven by the terrain.  The net result of these growing conditions is cluster formation that is almost picture-perfect. In 2016, we added another acre of Syrah planted immediately below the existing block on the South-facing amphitheater block.

2017 Tasting Notes

A dense purple/violet color with a touch of midnight blue promises a moody and mysterious wine. Aromas of black cherry, black currant and plum are supported by black pepper, sweet smoke, lavender, fennel, and eucalyptus. Aged in 100% French oak (50% new), acid and tannin are well-integrated in a powerful finish.
