The 3-acre Syrah Block is the most unique of the property.  It is a terrace “amphitheater” carved out of a solid limestone face with no topsoil.  When planted, the holes had to be cut out of the terraces and filled with starter topsoil to facilitate early growth.  The vine density is low due to overly wide spacing, driven by the terrain.  The net result of these growing conditions is cluster formation that is almost picture perfect. In 2016, we added another acre of Syrah planted immediately below the existing block on the South-facing amphitheater block.

2015 Tasting Notes

The color is an intense purple/ruby, promising a dark, brooding wine. Lush aromas of blackberry jam, dark cocoa, espresso beans, anise, and lavender are complemented by firm acids, a hint of dry minerality, and mature, sweet tannins. This is a wine of powerful structure, yet the intense fruit carries through in a long sensual finish.
